Justin Owen M.Ost.

Practice Manager / Principal Osteopath, Medical Acupuncturist and Functional Movement Specialist

Justin gained his Master’s Degree at the British School of Osteopathy (now the University College of Osteopathy), where he later taught alongside his practice work. He worked in various clinical settings before coming to Balham and has treated a huge variety of people from office and manual workers, and amateur athletes to elite sportspeople, actors and musicians.

Justin is a GOsC registered Osteopath and a qualified Medical Acupuncturist. He is also a movement specialist, having completed a mentorship with the prestigious Gray Institute in the USA, a Fellow of Applied Functional Science (FAFS), and has completed post-graduate courses in the treatment of children and how psychological health impacts physical health.

His special areas of interest include the relieving of pain through improved Functional movement, treatment of chronic pain, headaches and sports injuries generally.

From school and in his early 20s, he played competitive Rugby both here and in Hong Kong and was also a keen rower; he became interested in Osteopathy after sustaining a chronic neck injury following a motorcycle accident.

A daily motorcyclist, he keeps fit with CrossFit and running.

Justin works at Balham Osteopathic Practice all day on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

Grit Koenigs M.Ost.

Grit completed a five-year Master’s degree in Osteopathy at the British School of Osteopathy (now HSU) and a two-year postgraduate Diploma in Paediatric Osteopathy at the Osteopathic Centre for Children, where she continues to work as a volunteer.

Grit is also a member of the Sutherland Cranial College and is currently undertaking a 10-phase programme in Biodynamic Osteopathy.

Grit is competent in diagnosing and treating a wide range of physical conditions. She combines biodynamic, cranial, and structural treatment approaches to support recovery from injury, birth trauma, surgery or chronic health complaints. She works with patients of all ages – from the newborn to the older adult.

As a registered osteopath with the General Osteopathic Council and a member of the Institute of Osteopathy, Grit takes pride in providing trusted, professional care tailored to each individual

Outside the clinic, Grit enjoys going on active holidays with her husband and two daughters. She also practices Tai Chi and Iyengar Yoga, nurturing her own balance, vitality, and well-being.

Grit works at the Balham Osteopathic Practice on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Anita Santos Pires M.Ost

Anita Santos Pires M.Ost

Anita is a newly qualified and registered osteopath who brings over two years of hands-on clinical experience from her training at Health Sciences University (formerly the British School of Osteopathy).

She has completed more than 1,000 hours in clinic, treating a wide range of musculoskeletal presentations and working closely with clinical tutors to provide safe, effective and individualised care.

Anita is known for her warm, compassionate approach and her ability to put patients at ease. She takes time to understand each person’s concerns, combining a thorough case history and examination with clear explanations and a patient-centred treatment plan. Her practice includes a variety of structural techniques, soft-tissue work, joint articulation, and supportive advice on movement and self-management.

As part of her training, Anita gained additional experience in Portugal, working under professional supervision and assisting with paediatric-focused workshops. This gave her valuable insight into treating children and supporting parents in understanding healthy movement habits.

Alongside her clinical work, Anita has a strong background in communication, responsibility and public care through previous roles as a qualified lifeguard and a personal assistant. Outside the clinic, she is a competitive swimmer, musician, and an enthusiastic tutor for primary-aged children.

Anita is fluent in both Portuguese and English.
