Balham Osteopathic Practice is a regulated healthcare provider working in a COVID-secure environment. We were able to keep operating during the lockdowns by making a number of changes to our clinical approach to ensure a safe working environment.

Patient health and well-being have always been at the forefront of everything we do and now is no different. We have put in place a number of different processes to keep our patients and staff as protected as possible. On the 27th May, 2022, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) guidance on infection prevention and control for respiratory infections in health and care settings for winter 2021-22 was withdrawn. This means that our regulatory body, the General Osteopathic Council, has removed the requirement for masks in clinical settings unless there is a known COVID-19 infection. However, we are still keeping the following measures in place.

1. If you have recently tested positive or are showing symptoms of coronavirus, please contact us to cancel your appointment. You will be unable to come for treatment for five days after the first positive lateral flow test or first symptoms.

2. Clinic cleaning – the treatment room, hard surfaces and the treatment table will be thoroughly cleaned daily.

3. In the case of treating vulnerable patients or patients whose family members are vulnerable and who wish to wear masks. If you are concerned about this, please let us know before your appointment. We will make sure the room is cleaned before your arrival, and will, of course, wear PPE for your appointment.

4. Patients will be offered to use hand sanitiser on arrival at the clinic

These are some of the measures we will take to ensure the safety of all people using the practice.

Balham Osteopathic Practice is pleased to announce that Anita Pires, M.Ost, has joined the team as a registered osteopath and will begin seeing patients this week.

Anita brings over two years of hands-on clinical experience gained during her training at Health Sciences University (formerly the British School of Osteopathy). Having completed more than 1,000 hours in clinic, she has worked with a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions under the guidance of experienced clinical tutors. Her approach is grounded in safe, effective and individualised care.

Known for her warm and compassionate manner, Anita places great importance on understanding each patient’s concerns. She combines detailed case histories and examinations with clear explanations and a collaborative treatment plan. Her practice includes structural osteopathic techniques, soft-tissue work, joint articulation and advice on movement, recovery and long-term self-management.

Anita’s broader background in communication and public care—shaped through her roles as a qualified lifeguard and personal assistant—adds to her patient-centred approach. Outside of her clinical work, she is a competitive swimmer, musician and a dedicated tutor for primary-aged children. She is fluent in both Portuguese and English.

Justin Owen, Principal Osteopath and Clinic Owner, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Anita to the practice. She comes highly recommended and her clinical skill, compassion and dedication to patient wellbeing make her an excellent addition to our team. We look forward to introducing her to our community here in Balham.”

Appointments with Anita are now available.
